The ADAM presents Eames & Hollywood a retrospective that features photographs taken by Charles and Ray Eames on Billy Wilder’s film sets; the famous director was a friend of the couple.
Although their photographic work is a lesser-known aspect of the Californian couple’s career as architects and designers, it comprises over 750,000 images, and unquestionably influenced their vision of design.
These remarkable photographs taken by the couple reveal, among other things, views behind the scenes of the cinema industry in the 1960s, showing us the various locations, film sets and decors of Billy Wilder’s masterpieces. Eames
& Hollywood presents the full collection of images that featured in Movie Sets. This series, however, contained just some of the superb photographs taken by Charles Eames.
Accompanied by a catalogue illustrated with 150 photos, Eames & Hollywood brings together a total of 240 photographs from the collections held in the Eames Office (LA) and the Library of Congress (Washington DC).These include portraits of Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. Eames & Hollywood also features images of film assistants, make-up artists and industry professionals at work, as well as all the equipment used on the sets.
Workshops for kids.
During their visit to the exhibition, children will discover the different disciplines explored by the Eames.A course scheduled for July will give them the chance to immerse themselves in the glorious golden age of Hollywood cinema, with all its glitter, glamour and adventure. The workshop is animated in French and Dutch.
